All I Want for Christmas is to be Valued

Lyrics: All I Want for Christmas is to be Valued (Parody of ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’, by Mariah Carey).

And now for something a little bit different.

By Eleanor Walker, People & Development Consultant

Those of you that are familiar with the Atkinson HR Consulting blog will know that we love to share our insights on the world of work; including leadership, change and performance management, employee experience, recruitment, onboarding and wellbeing.

What you might not know about us is that we also embrace any opportunity to get creative and festive. So, what better way to share our thoughts on what your employees need from their organisations and line managers this Christmas than with a parody of the most loved (or love-to-hate) Christmas song?

We hope you enjoy it!

I don’t want a lot for Christmas

There is just one thing I need

I’m not a fan of festive jumpers,

Or decorating virtual Christmas trees.

I just want to feel that my,

Contribution’s recognised

Make my wish come true,

All I want for Christmas is to be valued.

I’d really like to gain new skills and

Develop my abilities.

Have valuable career discussions,

Exploring new opportunities.

I’m not that keen on Secret Santa,

Or Zoom quizzes in festive hats

I don’t want to work til’ late then

Miss another spinning class.

I just want some flexitime

My productivity will be just fine

I promise that it’s true

All I want for Christmas is to be valued.

I don’t want to wait 12 months to

Find out if I’m doing well

Please don’t wait for my appraisal

To drop a shock feedback-bombshell.

I’d love regular 1-2-1s to,

Discuss my work and how I’m feeling.

And if you think I’m struggling then,

I just want meaningful goals,

KPIs and clear milestones,

What more can I do?

All I want for Christmas, is to be valued.

Oh, the Christmas party’s cancelled, and we’re all stuck at home,

Another week’s gone by and I’m still working alone.

2020’s been really testing,

And everyone’s still guessing

So, won’t you please give me the trust I really need,

Don’t monitor my e-mails or the websites I read.

Oh, I don’t want a lot for Christmas

This is all I’m asking for

I just want you to say thank you

For doing my job and so much more

I just want it for my own,

Wellbeing at work and home.

Make my wish come true.

All I want for Christmas is to be valued.
